Solar parks are now part of frequency regulation
The task of ensuring that the Swedish electricity grid maintains a precise frequency of 50.0 hertz is known as frequency regulation. This process occurs at several levels. To start, buyers and sellers on the Nord Pool electricity market must provide daily forecasts of how much they plan to produce and consume in the coming 24 hours, broken down by the hour. Based on this information, estimates are made regarding the required production levels for each energy source, considering factors like wind conditions, water reserves, and more.
Solar power has previously faced criticism for its variability, as renewable sources like wind and solar can cause significant fluctuations in production. This places greater demands on frequency regulation. However, since 2022, the solar park we built in collaboration with HSB Södermanland has been part of the frequency regulation market. This initiative has proven successful, paving the way for more solar parks to join the system.
